Icy Blonde Sombre

Good hair days should be documented, agreed? Especially when there are Goddesses amongst us who can icy blonde sombré you up to perfection in under two hours. Shelby and Reidun, I bow down to your skillz ladies.

This year has flown by, and there’s so much to discuss – a trip to the Middle East, my first Beer Bloggers conference, the fact that I was mom to the cutest orange tabby cat for a 24 hour period. Sadly, I’m deathly allergic. You’ve cat to be kitten me! (Yeah, yeah…you know you love it.)

It’s been a year of serious growth, serious soul searching and serious learning. Some serious sombre shit for 2016. But let’s focus on this hair for now because it be fly as hell. Or the new love of my life, my Alexander McQueen scarf. While I never believe the outside defines the inside, this scarf gets pretty damn close. Paired with leathery-like pants, of course. Or Miss Gabby because let’s be honest, her selfie game sucks. I thought I taught her better. You don’t look in the mirror silly! Kids.

Banana Republic x 2

I’ll be honest. I hadn’t stepped foot in a Banana Republic for years until earlier this Spring. I always went into the store with high hopes only to come out with a random sweater or nothing at all. Pants never fit. Dresses were incorrectly sized. It was mega frustration on all levels. But this Spring they brought back the shirt dress in a variety of styles and colors, and I decided to give the store another chance. I fell back in love and picked up a pretty green number with flirty sleeves in a Safari style. It’s by far my favorite garment of the moment! So when Banana kicked off a blogger challenge, I was thrilled to participate after my new found love of their duds.

When I walked through their doors, my jaw dropped when I spotted this dress. I happen to be obsessed with this impossible to find shade of bluish green that reminds me of the stunning ocean waters at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. It’s a rocky area on South Africa’s Atlantic coast that is also known as one of the most dangerous stretches of coastline in the world. Despite its penchant for sinking ships, it’s still mesmerizing to watch the waves crash against the rugged and rocky formations. You know those waves mean business but you just can’t help yourself. You can’t tear yourself away.

I feel like this dress, when put on and zipped up, elicits the same responses and emotions as that coastline. The color, well, we’ve already established it’s beautiful. The top half of the dress is also quite feminine, with the ruffled bodice. But the way the faux wrap dress hugs those curves, well, it’s down right dangerous. Breathtaking yet devilish….in the best possible way. Oh and did I mention the pretty, shiny, sparkly baubles that pick up the dress hue and then some? Just a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ to finish off the look.

And heels or booties more than likely. Let’s just say I’m not the best at super casual. This tie waisted jacket is a must have for everyone from the uber professional to the most cool, casual chic out there. It ties around and cinches the waist line, perfect over an every day tee or in lieu of being all matchy matchy and wearing a suit jacket. (Suits – I shudder just thinking of them.)

banana-republic-blogger-challenge-jenn-inspired (1 of 1)-5_Beautune_20160612I also happen to love this roll sleeve crew tee as well. It’s the best soft, neutral colored gray I’ve found, and the material feels like heaven against your skin. And while the tees aren’t tunic length, they aren’t super short either. It’s the perfect happy medium where you can tuck in or leave out. I’ve already purchased a second one of these tees in the prettiest shade of blush!

A huge thanks to Banana Republic for making fall in love with you all over again and letting me pick out a few key pieces for my wardrobe.

Shopbop Friends and Family Sale

It’s Shopbop’s surprise Friends and Family sale kids. Happy Tuesday to us all! And for those of us who were off yesterday, there’s nothing better than a surprise sale to get us through those Monday and Tuesday back-to-work blues. Last year I used the sale as an opportunity to stock up on some wardrobe basics that I couldn’t normally afford like a little leather jacket and some dainty baubles. This year I only have one thing on my list – this Free People Fringed Poncho. While it’s available at other locations, typically you cannot use coupons on items like Free People, French Connection and other designer threads. That’s why the Shopbop Friends and Family sale is a total boss. Most items are included in the use of the coupon, and getting 25% off your designer favorites is seriously a little slice of heaven. It’s a great time to do what I did last year – work on your closet revamp and pick up basics. Or throw caution to the wind and grab some of this fall’s trendsetting items that are all the rage right now in boho, fringe and everything and anything plaid! And if you’re one of the lucky ones that has a money tree, check out The Splurge section. What I wouldn’t give for that Mara Hoffman cape! You have to see the back!

The Shopbop Friends and Family Sale only lasts until October 15th….that’s Thursday! You only have two days to get shopping! Don’t hesitate! Go! Now! Don’t forget to use code INTHEFAM25 for 25% off! Shop till you drop!

Fall Bootie Finds

fall-bootie-season-jenn-inspiredFall is in the air friends! Can you feel it? Errr…probably not, especially if you’re in the DC area. I mean, it’s been 90 the past few days with sky high humidity! Indian summer perhaps? Maybe you’re as confused as I am when posts like mine are hitting the web, proclaiming fall to be here in all her fiery, autumn leaves glory. PSL is the most popular acronym right now, and yeah both Halloween AND Christmas candy is on the store shelves. I guess we’ve been duped?! I will say the leaves are already starting to fall. After the yearly trek out and back to South Dakota by truck, I can attest they are also already turning colors. So an early fall I think it will be, hence you better be getting your boot on! My picks below will have your heart singing and ready for those cool autumn breezes, trust me. Continue Reading

Crop It Like It’s Hot

Birthdays mean you can do whatever you want. Dress how you want. Cry if you want to a la Lesley Gore’s hit from the 60s. Demand birthday weeks turn into a full-fledged birthday month. Whatever you want! So crop tops and birthdays are my new forever thing, a birthday tradition if you will. Best damn birthday tradition I say! Are you with me? Continue Reading
