Happy Wednesday all! It’s a great week for shopping out there on the Web my friends. Not only is it Amazon Prime Day today (Yay!), but it’s also the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Eve! If you are a Nordstrom card holder, you’ve more than likely been filling your cart will all kinds of Fall fashion goodies. But if not, the gates open for you to start shopping tomorrow! And you need to act fast because things are already selling out! With the ol’ budget replenished for the year, a pretty hefty order went in yesterday. But different than last year’s purchasing debacle is that this year, I’ve picked up closet basics that will allow me to clear out a bunch of the clutter and leave me with pieces I can mix and match for years to come. I feel so good about it all. I don’t think one trendy item went into the cart. Go me!
If you’re in need of your own closet refresh, I’ve picked out my favorite wardrobe basic items. What do I mean by that? To me, these items are those “forever” items in your closet. You can wear them with multiple items, maximizing your wardrobe. They’ll stand as classics through this trend or that trend, and even if you invest a tiny bit more than you’d normally spend, it’s worth it in the long run. The Nordstrom sale is typically so, so good that you can find something of better quality for the same price of something that won’t last more than a year. Thank you Nordstrom!
I’ve become a huge, huge fan of the blouse, tunic and button down. It’s a secret I wish I would have had insight into long ago. Tossing on a blouse and pair of jeans is so easy! But it looks like you spent hours in front of your closet getting ready. I picked up this tunic in both black and green. I’m a fan of anything that covers the largest part of my thighs, which is a shirt that comes in at about 32 or 33 inches from the shoulders. You can never go wrong with a crisp, white button down either. It’s classic, timeless and goes with everything. I’m also a fan of bright blues lately, so this plaid button down and striped shirt are on the top of my list.
I live in long cardigans during the fall and winter months. Layers are necessary when it comes to Virginia weather, so I always have one either on my body or packed in my tote bag. I think the waterfall-front cardigans are very flattering, and this black one will go with everything you own. Or Treat Yo’ Self and pick up this cashmere version in gray. Every woman deserves at least one piece of cashmere in her closet, and at this price point, you can definitely afford it. This sleeveless mock-neck will look great at work or paired with jeans, and we all love a good cape in the fall, don’t we?
Oh dresses, how I love you so. I love pairing you with tights in the fall and winter or tossing on with knee-high boots. In addition to blues this fall, I’m obsessed with all shades of green. This dress is everything I love all rolled into one – perfect length, longer sleeves and in a gorgeous color of green. White is typically my nemesis, meaning if I wear white I better not be eating or drinking or around anyone who might be eating or drinking. It will become stained for life. That minor detail doesn’t stop me from loving the color, and I think this dress in white is so cute. The leather accents on this shift make the dress interesting enough (a little bondagey, no?) to save it from being a boring old gray dress, and I love the shape of this little plaid number. You’ll be twirling in the hall ways at work for sure!
Coats and jackets are my fall and winter weakness. After picking up a leather jacket last year, I can tell you whole heartedly it’s one the best purchases of my life. It goes with everything, and I always recommend going one size up so you can wear it over your bulkiest sweaters. This jacket right now is at a great price for the leather jacket you get. I’m also a fan of anything that ties at the waist. I love the sleeves on this black number, and isn’t the aubergine color of this coat so perfect for fall?
If you think you own enough denim, you’re probably wrong. You can always use at least one new pair a season. I’m a big fan of black skinnies since they’re perfect for day, night and work. I don’t wear dress pants because I fully believe they are only made for one body type (no matter what “cuts” a store may advertise), and they always need altered to fit a woman’s body. They sag and snug in all the wrong places; believe me, I see it all day long. But a pair of black skinny jeans will hug you in all of the right places and are perfectly acceptable for work with a nice blouse and blazer. I’m also looking at more straight leg vs. skinny jeans this fall as well as my favorite – flares. These flare in a very subtle way, so you can enjoy the trend and not walk around with elephant legs all day. You can leave that for me!
A new pair of sunnies has been on my radar for a while, and I’m in love with this black pair and this neutral pair. I gravitated away from the “bigger is better” sunglass lenses for a while, but now it’s all I want! I’m also in the mood for a new watch, and I love the rose gold accents on this one from Skagen. These tiny black baubles here and here make perfect ear accents, and how cute is this cross-body bag?
Nordstrom, you’ve gone and done it again girlfriend, hitting fall out of the park. Alright 90 degree sticky, sweaty heat, I’m just about done with you. Bring on the snuggly clothes!
