Monday Musings: Getting Back to Good

Happy Monday everyone. I’ve missed you! How have you been? I’m glad to finally have some energy to write!  Illnesses of every kind swept over the Specketer household these past two weeks. And the pups were not excluded. We’re talking evil viruses that should be dormant but aren’t. Yoga injuries (who knew that was even possible?!) Allergies. Major vitamin deficiencies. A minor knee fix up for the Brode-man. A stomach bug and a possible heart/lung issue for Miss Gabby (we’ll know more this week). It’s been cray. I could barely get out of bed some mornings let alone feel compelled to keep up with the blog. Turns out this evil virus that stress most likely activated contributes to chronic fatigue syndrome. And I’m pretty sure it’s been active for quite some time…possibly two years or so! Knowing is half the battle, right? At least now when I say I’m exhausted, I understand why. Good news is I have a great team working to get me back to good. But more on all of this later. On a happier note let’s…

Join a Secret Society. Did you know Starbucks has a secret menu of drinks? Caffeine, in addition to all sugars, are things I need to eventually eliminate from my diet per this past weekend’s instructions (ay. dos. mio.) Fancy a Caramel Snickerdoodle Macchiato? How about a Raspberry Cheesecake Frappuccino? Maybe the You’ll Never Be Good Enough Latte is more your style? OK. OK. These all aren’t actual drinks, but the article made you smile, right?

Sport Some #BrunchyBraids. I don’t know about you, but when it comes to hair, I’m completely style challenged. I’m sure it comes from years of not knowing what to do with my curls. No one knew what to do, so it was always mom to the rescue to make it look as good as it could. I could barely pull a comb through my mop as a kid let alone be bothered to learn to braid it. But this easy side braid is something even I could muster the patience for…when the hair grows back of course.

Brighten Up. So what do we think about the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection? Are you digging the bright colors? The beachwear? The summer dresses? I’ve never been a fan, but I will admit when I lived in Charleston, SC the first year following college, I did join the Lilly cult briefly and purchased a strapless dress (since been donated). Because they were everywhere, and my Pennsylvania style didn’t quite fit in with the southern belles. However, I am sorta in love with the swimwear and the coverups. I mean, fringe!

Keep It Southern. Speaking of Charleston, Bravo is back with Season 2 of Southern Charm Since living in the town and always having a soft spot for it (sometimes I kick myself for not moving there when I had the chance) I look for any chance to see a glimpse of the city I spent so much time in after college. The guys definitely remind me of the “southern gents” I met during that time. And by southern gents I don’t mean southern gents. Funny how some things just never change! I do sorta love Cameran though. She was one of my all time favorite Real World cast members.

Visit Tiffani’s. In addition to Southern Charm, my newest TV obsession is Dinner at Tiffani’s. Guys, I love Ms. Tiffani Amber Thiessen. I always have. To see her working in the kitchen….Total. Girl. Crush. all over again. From the cocktails to the starters to the main course, I haven’t seen her whip up something I wouldn’t love to try. And the details in her home and on the dinner table…she might be able to give Ms. Martha Stewart a little run for her money! Check it out on the Cooking Channel. You won’t be disappointed. You may even become obsessed over her cooking utensils like I have. I mean, everyone needs a mini whisk!

Have a great start to your week!  It’s good to talk with you all again!
