Sleek. Black. Cheap. Chic.

Rise and shine campers! Hope you’ve got your booties on today, because it’s cooooold outside! Gosh, is it ever. DC just broke a record from 1870 this morning! WTF. You also might be throwing me a WTF about the background of these photos. Beautiful, right? I know, most hotels don’t really make for great blog outfit photos, with their unflattering hallway lighting and oh so interesting decor.  But I somehow always have to drag the hubs out for hallway pics (more evidence of that here). I also might have been buzzing a bit after our Valentine’s Day beer pairing dinner. Six courses with full beer pours (the last at 10%!) Yep, full on buzzing!

helmut-lang-leather-blazer-jenn-inspired11I opted for the full on opposite of what you might consider optimal V-Day wear. I had planned to go all pink and saccharin and changed my mind at the last minute due to the temps. Sleek and black is where it’s at…at least in my wardrobe lately.  And just a quick disclaimer this morning on the blog. While I shouldn’t have to bring this up because what I do with my money is my biznass, I want to let you all know that I NEVER buy anything at full price. EVER. Some of the items I feature (like this amazing Helmut Lang blazer that has paid for itself time and time again) might come across as expensive, but I paid less than 200 bucks for it. I patiently wait and stalk everything I buy until it hits rock bottom prices or until I find some amazing promo code for online shopping. Sometimes this means I lose out on an item I’ve fallen head over heels in love with. Sometimes it means I score big and save a ton of money. Same with these Alexander Wang Blood Orange beauties – less than 100 bucks at Shopbop’s last sale. I’d like to say I’ve perfected the art of finding designer gems on a dime. Patience is a virtue when it comes to shopping, for me at least. It might seem a little intense (and maybe like some twisted form of gambling), but it’s how I can afford investment worthy pieces and add quality items to my closet. Luckily there are apps that take care of the stalking for me, and I can sit back, relax and wait for the good news emails to roll in. Phew, it feels oh so good to get that off my chest. I’m actually speaking to a very small, select audience with the above. No need to hone in on the details. Not. Worth. It.

Hopefully you’ve got some kick ass weekend plans in store. Saturday takes the hubs and I to Annapolis as I’m going to be writing some local travel posts for another online publication (more on that later!) And Sunday brings us the Daytona 500 (which I have been to once and was awesome), and if you’re following your February checklist, National Margarita Day! I expect there to be margarita glasses in your hands. No exceptions.  It’s your weekend mission. Have a good one kids!
