Long weekends away are good for the soul. They allow you to step outside of your day-to-day bubble and look in on your life with a different perspective. When you’d normally be running errands at Target (purposely being led around the store away from the clothing and accessories – does anyone else’s husband do this?!), you’re instead out wine tasting and letting the crisp, country air fill your lungs. When you’d normally be slaving away in the kitchen making that complex weekend meal with all of the chopping and complaining over lack of counter space, you’re stepping out, hand in hand with your love, all dolled up for drinks and dessert (two spoons please). And when you’d normally be falling asleep on the couch with pickle chip remnants on your fingers, you’re all snuggled up in cozy blankets (that you don’t have to wash) listening to the wind blow and the snow fall with three warm pups at your feet. They only responsibility you have is to soak in every single second of your time away. It feels so good, doesn’t it?
Luckily for us, our extra long weekend is still going strong thanks to Mother Nature! She finally threw us some solid snow here in the DC area which means snow day! It’s sorta a replay of the weekend this morning. Still snuggled in bed, one pup snoozing in the middle just like a child with the covers pulled up to her chin. There’s wine and cheese waiting for the afternoon instead of chores. There’s DVR catching up to do instead of laundry. I guess real life will come swooping back in with a hard slap tomorrow. But until that time, here’s to the soul cleansing, perspective setting long weekends. Cheers!
