It’s fitting that a day devoted to kindness falls just a few days after the day we celebrate love and all that goes with it. February 17th gives us a chance to put into practice that love in a way where chocolates, bouquets of flowers and fancy dinners aren’t necessary. Random Acts of Kindness are about simple actions, simple actions that when performed, speak volumes. Little things that might bring a smile to someone’s face, make someone’s day or unbeknownest to you, change someone’s whole life. So when you are out and about today, take a moment to think about how you can bring about moments of kindness to those around you. And if you need some help coming up with some ideas, the actions below won’t cost you muchbut your time!
~ Put together a Military Care Package; let someone overseas know you care.
~ Clean out your closet and donate your unwanted items. Places like Purple Heart or Vietnam Vets will come to your door.
~ Pay for the person behind you in line at the drive-thru or at Starbucks.
~ Give a stranger a compliment. Smile and say hello to someone you don’t know.
~ Instead of sending a quick, impersonal email, mail a hand written note to a dear friend just because.
~ Donate blood – it’s always in need.
~ During your morning and afternoon commute, be polite on the road. Subdue the road rage. Let someone in front of you or if you use public transportation, give up your seat to another.
~ Hold the door for everyone today, no matter where you need to be. And if they don’t say thank you, shrug it off.
~ Call someone you haven’t talked to for a while just to check in and say hello.
~ Leave sticky notes full of inspirational quotes around the office and around the home.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking. And these random acts of kindness, they aren’t just for today. Incorporating something as small as a smile or a hello into your every day might mean the world to someone. You just never know.
So what will you be doing today?
