My Style: Raised by a Pittsburgh Dad

If you’re not from the Pittsburgh area, chances are you’ve missed out on some of the most hilarious videos to hit YouTube – Pittsburgh Dad. And more than likely if you didn’t grow up in or right outside of Pittsburgh, it would mean nothing to you. But if you are from around the area, there’s a good chance these videos echo your life growing up in some way. I know for me, the first time I saw one of these videos I couldn’t believe it! There were bits of my dad and my life growing up right there in front of me! The glasses Pittsburgh Dad wears, my dad totally had those for years. The words used, the “accent”, the speech patterns….truly unbelievable. In fact, my dad is besties with a guy named Tom. He says Tom exactly the same way as Pittsburgh Dad!  I think seeing that was the moment I fell in love with these videos and can’t get enough.

There’s something special about the Pittsburgh area, something I’ve missed for the past 10 years here in Virginia, something that can’t be replicated. And luckily that feeling starts inching its way back to you as you wind your way up through Somerset on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. As you go through the Squirrel Hill tunnels, round that bend and see the breathtaking Pittsburgh skyline. As you get home and find your favorite pizza (or homemade pierogies!) are waiting for you. It’s a feel good, makes your heart tap dance kinda thing. It’s home.

So when I found these shirts prior to Christmas, I had to pick them up! The first time I showed my Pittsburgh dad thee Pittsburgh Dad, he kinda scoffed at it, told me I was a bit crazy to be making that connection. But when he opened his Christmas gifts and pulled out the shirt, that familiar chuckle said it all. And what a good sport for throwing it on for pictures, am I right? It was nice having my Pittsburgh Dad visit, bringing a piece of home to me for a little while over the Holidays. In the meantime, I’ll keep watching and keep dreaming an Eat’ n Park will magically open in Virginia! I wanted to share my favorite episode but couldn’t choose. So below you’ll find a compilation of some of the best Pittsburgh Dad videos on YouTube. Enjoy!
