Looking for a fun food/wine pairing for the Holidays?! You’ve found it! A co-worker had been talking about the really cool pairing of champagne and popcorn, so being the adventurous couple we are (HA-HA), the hubs and I picked up this Blanc de Blancs to give it a try.
Ok so, technically….we didn’t really have champagne. It has to be called a sparkling wine. You can only call it champagne if it comes from the Champagne region of France. And ladies, this is legit popcorn, no 100 cal packs, 99% fat free no butter added. I broke down to eat the real thing, and I’m glad I did. I don’t think the experience would have been quite the same with my wallboardish fat free popcorn.
This Blanc de Blancs was light and a bit dry, and boy did the taste and fizz effect “POP” with the popcorn! If you try it, take a piece of popcorn, chew a bit and hold in your mouth. Then take a sip of the wine. Pretty awesome experience, yes?! Imagine a more sophisticated pop rocks effect…that gets you tipsy! Let me know if you give it a try!
