Get Fit: Body Pump It Up

I have to admit when it comes to working out, I get bored quite easily and constantly need to mix up my routine. This boredom can sometimes translate into no motivation to do anything at all, which isn’t really good for my body or my mind. I’ve been in a rut for the past couple of months, in need of a jump start back into a consistent workout program. I have a home gym, which is really nice to have! However, it’s also nice (and quite easy I might add) to snuggle on the couch with one of the furkids instead of jumping on the treadmill. As you can see, my self-discipline is sometimes lacking.

Enter Les Mills Body Pump. My good friend in PA had raved about the program, barely ever missing a class at her local gym. I can’t justify a gym membership with the equipment I have in the basement, so when I found out he released his workouts for home, I had to give it a try. I’m a big fan of traditional lifting, having done CrossFit for a good while. Now, this is nothing like CrossFit mind you. But, it takes you back to the basics of weightlifting – squats, shoulder presses, lunges, deadlifts. If you need a bar and weights, the DVDs also come with the equipment.

So far, I am really enjoying the workouts. I feel focused and strong. And, the set of DVDs comes with beginner classes up to intermediate/advanced. I have read if you’ve participated in the actual Body Pump classes, the workouts may be too easy for you. I don’t have to worry about that as my thighs have been screaming at me since Monday. A very good sign! I can see myself fitting back into my skinny jeans in no time!

And because working out at home does require extra motivation, having some cute and fun workout wear is mandatory. I used to throw on my old ratty high school t-shirts (oh yeah, I still have every single one, holes and all) and shorts. That doesn’t cut it anymore. I picked out some of my favorites, including some oxblood pants and jewel tones to celebrate the trends of this fall! Now, get off that ass and get moving!
